In 2017 the Department of Urban Planning and Design at the Faculty of Architecture of the Budapest University of Technology worked with third and fourth year students on learning, understanding, development and design of the riverbank areas of four towns on the Danube, namely Esztergom (H), Štúrovo (SK), Komárno (SK) and Paks. In addition to the courses Department Design (“TT”) 1, 2 and 3, this included a TT2+ course for the international exchange students. In all cases, the urban design was based on research, the methodology of which was strongly connected to the DANUrB project coordinated by the department. The project titled DANube Urban Brand – a regional network building through tourism and education to strengthen the “Danube” cultural identity and solidarity receives funding in the priority area 2.2 of the European Union’s Interreg Danube Transnational Programme. The project aims at putting the Danube-related heritage of small and mid-sized towns in interregional context, and at proposing possible development options through a comprehensive strategy.
