Beyond the Borders: New Horizons
Debrecen (HU) – Nagyvárad/Oradea (RO) – Gyula (HU)
March 02-03, 2019 (Saturday- Sunday)
Study trip of the Department of Urban Planning and Design, BME
We are organizing a study trip to get to know the Central Eastern European urban heritage. The travel destinations are the cities on both sides of the Hungarian-Romanian border, which had a strong cultural and commercial relationship over the centuries. Although the borders have separated the cities Debrecen, Oradea and Gyula, the new regional co-operation can bring the twin cities back into a tight symbiosis that is reflected in their thriving cultural life. Contemporary architecture and urban development projects provide new models for cooperation between CEE countries and cities. Our goal is to investigate the typical characteristics of multicultural heritage and the progressive toolkit of contemporary interventions, which can give new horizons for the Eastern regions.
